What is the function of a tea infuser?
The main function of a tea infuser is to separate the herbs from the hot water. This separation is done through a tea filter or strainer, which we call an “infuser”, allowing the transfer of the properties and characteristics of the herbs to the water without direct contact. Besides being easy to use, the tea infuser adapts to any type of tea or infusion and tea accessory, and can be used in cups, glasses or thermoses. In practice, a tea infuser provides the same result as a tea bag. The difference lies in the choice of material, the size of the tea accessory and the characteristics of the herb or herbs used in the infusion.
At Mercado do Chá, the most popular infusers are made of stainless steel and silicone. This choice is due to the resistance of the materials, making them more durable and economically advantageous. They are also an excellent sustainable option, contributing to home composting of herbs. These materials are preferred for loose-leaf teas, as they preserve the quality of the tea or infusion. Normally, you will not notice any odor or taste from the infuser material. If you prefer a stainless-steel infuser, choose one with fewer or smaller holes to prevent ingredients from escaping into the water during infusion.
How to use a tea infuser:
Step 1: Open the infuser and add the desired amount of ingredients;
Step 2: Place the infuser in the cup or tea glass and pour hot water;
Step 3: Wait for the recommended infusion time;
Step 4: Remove the infuser and discard the ingredients;
Step 5: Rinse the infuser under running water without detergent and let it air-dry.
