Curiosities:
Originally from Central America and Southwest Asia, lemongrass is highly appreciated in the Caribbean, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Australia. This rustic and aromatic herb thrives in mild environments with humidity and good sun exposure. In many countries, it is used as a vegetable and aromatic herb in various culinary dishes combined with grated coconut, curry, fish, ginger, and meat.
Bergamot, Citrus bergamia or bergamot orange, is a small citrus fruit whose shape is slightly similar to a pear. This species is almost exclusively limited to the coastal area of the Calabria province in Italy, which is why it is the representative symbol of the region. It is also cultivated in Argentina, Brazil, and Georgia. However, it is believed that the highest-quality fruits are produced only in Calabria due to the presence of clay, lime, and alluvial deposits in the soil. In the production of Earl Grey, the essence is extracted from the bergamot peel to aromatize the tea.
The term “bergamot” comes from the Turkish designation “beg armudi,” which translates as “the prince’s pear.” Known for its bittersweet flavor, bergamot is a powerful fruit rich in vitamin A and has multiple different names. According to historical records, bergamot may have existed longer than the orange itself. This fruit is easy to grow, adaptable to any climate, and very resilient. Due to its penetrating aroma, bergamot essence is widely used in aromatherapy to reduce symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress, promoting a good mood. In the United Kingdom, Earl Grey is a very popular beverage at breakfast or in the afternoon.
